Internal corrosion or internal erosion can lead to the need for a pipeline repair. The nature of the internal metal loss and the status of the rate of metal loss may need to be known to determine if a repair is temporary, or if the rate of metal loss can be mitigated with inhibitors or process changes, a repair may in fact be able to be declared permanent.
